Preparations continue at Expo Dubai at an accelerated pace to welcome the world as part of the COP 28 climate conference hosted by the UAE from November 30 to December 12, 2023. This emphasizes the UAE’s leading role in addressing global issues.
Several plans are being worked on in collaboration with specialized teams from local authorities in Dubai and federal entities to ensure the ease of guest transportation and the smooth entry to the Blue Zone in Expo city. Buses have been designated for the transport of visitors and participants to the Green Zone.
The event site in 2023 includes two areas, a Blue Zone designated for official delegations and a Green Zone open to the public, non-governmental organizations, and other participants. For the first time in the history of COP conferences, the Green Zone will be adjacent to the Blue Zone, allowing decision-makers and officials to interact closely with individuals, students, community institutions, and work closely with them to ensure that the conference’s results align with the aspirations and needs of the people for real and effective action for our generation and future generations.
Hind Al Mehiri, Director of Special Projects – Expo Dubai, said that the UAE aims to inspire the local and international community to work together to consolidate effective sustainability practices and enhance global efforts to address environmental and climate challenges. On the other hand, Expo 2020 Dubai provides a model of a city that embraces sustainable urban life, especially with the presence of the experiences and competencies that place it at the forefront of destinations in this field.
Hosting COP 28 confirms that the goal is mutual, and the message is one: working towards achieving environmental sustainability and addressing climate challenges. In line with the UAE’s approach to cooperation and joint work to unify efforts and reach practical solutions, various programs and initiatives have been prepared to make the conference hosting a unique platform to embody the state’s efforts to find realistic solutions to emissions, food waste, energy, water, and other environmental and climate sustainability issues.
Spaces and dedicated areas have been prepared for media coverage throughout the site for filming and conducting interviews, including a media center in the Blue Zone and another in the Green Zone. Both are equipped with all necessary internet connectivity and studio services and other amenities aimed at facilitating the task of journalists and enabling them to perform it.
Hind Al Mehiri continued, the UAE organized the first international Expo held in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, successfully bringing together 192 countries. We welcomed 24.1 million visitors to the event site and more than 251.2 million virtual visits over six months between October 2021 and March 2022. We provided an exceptional and unique Expo and offered the best technologies that allowed a seamless experience for visitors. We managed to unify global efforts to take impactful actions on many important humanitarian issues.”
