Fujairah aims to attract half a million visitors annually

The Department of Tourism and Antiquities in Fujairah affirmed its efforts to increase the current number of visitors to archaeological sites in the emirate, especially with the ongoing development, maintenance, and improvement of services near these sites. The emirate has an ambitious plan to transform its archaeological areas into integrated tourist attractions that provide an ideal experience for heritage and archaeological enthusiasts.

Archaeological areas, including castles, museums, and historical villages, have been one of the most important pillars of tourism in the Emirate of Fujairah over the years due to their diversity and unique appeal, given the famous landmarks that embody inspiring historical stories about Fujairah’s history and heritage.

Fujairah aims to double the number of visitors to its archaeological sites located within the emirate’s boundaries, reaching half a million visitors, after recording nearly 113,000 visits to the top 7 archaeological sites during 2022.

Al Bidya Mosque topped the list of the most visited archaeological sites with approximately 88,740 visitors, followed by Fujairah Fort, Fujairah Museum, and Dibba Castle.

Fujairah plays a significant role in domestic tourism, attracting visitors from different emirates due to its unique climate and geographical nature. Additionally, its proximity to the Sultanate of Oman makes it an attractive destination for Omani tourists. Furthermore, the emirate features various hotel establishments with leading hotel brands, which enhances the tourism sector in the emirate and attracts more tourists from various countries worldwide to enjoy its unique natural beauty.

Recently, the Department completed the restoration project of more than 12 forts, representing the vision of the Fujairah government to continuously develop and enhance its tourism sector.
