International aviation officials have confirmed the exceptional success of the United Arab Emirates in organizing the third Aviation and Alternative Fuels Conference, reinforcing its leading position as a destination for major global events and conferences in the region.
During the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) conference, officials stated that the UAE has become an ideal destination for hosting and attracting major international meetings, events, and conferences. This is attributed to several factors, including advanced infrastructure, hotel facilities, and service sectors that surpass their global counterparts.
Over the course of five days, decision-makers and experts in the aviation, energy, and environmental sectors from 191 countries around the world discussed the importance of achieving international consensus on mechanisms for transitioning to a balanced system for aviation fuel production. They also emphasized the sustainability of the sector’s growth and agreed on future solutions to accelerate the production of clean fuels, contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in the aviation sector.
Officials highlighted that the conference represented the largest international gathering of leaders in the aviation industry, manufacturers, investors, and experts in low-carbon aviation fuels and sustainable fuels. The decisions made during the conference are expected to bring about real changes in the future of civil aviation and play a key and influential role in global efforts related to the climate neutrality agenda and sustainable development goals, just days before the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28).
Saeed Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority, emphasized that the UAE’s hosting of the conference was based on the international aviation community’s confidence in the country’s capabilities to host exceptional events. He noted that the country has been a pioneer in hosting many international events and all of them have resulted in important announcements and recommendations.
Al Suwaidi stated that the conference worked towards achieving consensus on mechanisms for the transition to a balanced system for aviation fuel production and the sustainability of the aviation sector’s growth. The conference’s decisions are expected to bring about real changes in the future of civil aviation, playing a major and influential role in global efforts related to the climate neutrality agenda and sustainable development goals.
Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary-General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), stated that the third Aviation and Alternative Fuels Conference hosted by the UAE through the General Civil Aviation Authority witnessed many events and discussions over the week, contributing to the success of the event.
Salazar added that the conference was a good opportunity to discuss updates on clean energy production and the necessary policies to support the transition to low-carbon and sustainable fuel production. Additionally, discussions focused on ways to support countries in building their capabilities for clean energy production for aviation, reviewing the ambitious long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality.
Abdel-Nabi Manar, General Director of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, affiliated with the Arab League, emphasized that the holding of the third Aviation and Alternative Fuels Conference in the UAE embodied the country’s significant contribution to the global aviation sector and international confidence in its influential and central role in the climate change file in the aviation sector.
He pointed out that the conference highlighted the efforts of the civil aviation sector in providing solutions to accelerate the production of clean fuels, contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, just before the COP28 conference in Dubai.
Catalin Radu, Director General of the Civil Aviation Administration in Kazakhstan, stated that the UAE has achieved great success by hosting the conference as one of the major influential countries in the global aviation sector. He emphasized the international confidence in the UAE’s role in addressing climate change in the aviation sector on both regional and global levels.
Dr. Kostas Iatrou, CEO of Hermes Global Aviation Foundation, mentioned that the UAE has been a pioneer in hosting major events in the aviation sector and is one of the leading countries in this field. He stated that the conference highlighted the need for the aviation sector to have a roadmap ensuring the commitment of countries to the transition to a balanced system for sustainable aviation fuel production for further development and growth.
