Dubai International Airport, the world’s largest international passenger airport, has been awarded the Autism-Friendly Environment certification by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). This makes it the first international airport globally to receive such recognition.
According to Dubai Airports, this achievement reaffirms its commitment to enhancing the travel experience for people with autism and aligns with Dubai’s vision to become an accredited destination for autism.
Majed Al Joker, Chief Executive Officer of Operations at Dubai Airports, stated, “This accomplishment reiterates our commitment to providing an inclusive travel experience for all our guests, including individuals with non-visible disabilities. In line with the UAE Vision 2021 and Dubai Plan 2021 to be an inclusive city for people with determination, we at Dubai Airports are keen on providing a welcoming and supportive environment in our airports for everyone.”
He added, “We work closely with the Department of Economy and Tourism and the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards to identify and address challenges in this field.”
Maron Bencik-Carey, Chairman of the Board of IBCCES, expressed support for Dubai Airports’ commitment to offering a comprehensive travel experience for everyone. He highlighted the partnership, noting that they equipped airport staff with the necessary skills and tools to create a more welcoming environment for travelers with autism, contributing to an enhanced travel experience for all.
