Jeddah Economic Company has granted contractors a deadline until the end of February to submit their bids for the completion of work on the world’s tallest tower, Jeddah Tower, with a height exceeding 1000 meters in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. According to “MEED” magazine, several local and international companies have engaged with the developer regarding the project, and Jeddah Economic Company has resumed work on the Jeddah Tower project. Contractors are expected to form joint ventures with local and international partners. Contractors have visited the site, and Jeddah Economic Company conducted an independent assessment of the structure before issuing the tender.
The foundation work for the tower, which has already broken records, is complete, and one-third of the superstructure construction has been finished. The tower’s foundation work began in early 2010 with the local Saudi Binladin Group as the contractor, and German company Bauer completed the foundation work. Jeddah Economic Company has called for performance guarantees or bonds provided by the Saudi Binladin Group, which had a 40% stake in the project.
Although the Saudi Binladin Group no longer operates as a contractor on the project, the consulting team remains unchanged. The architectural engineering is provided by Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill, based in the United States, and the engineering consultant is Dar Al-Handasah in Lebanon (Shair and Partners). The shareholders in the company are the Kingdom Holding Company with a 40% stake, the Bin Ladin Group with a 40% stake, and the Shobokshi Group with a 20% stake. Jeddah Tower is set to be taller than the Burj Khalifa in Dubai by more than 172 meters and is a key development for Jeddah Economic Company.
The first phase of the project, which includes the main tower, covers an area of 1.5 square kilometers. It’s worth noting that Jeddah Economic Company Limited (JEC) was established in 2009 as a joint venture between Kingdom Holding Company, which owns a significant share, Abarar Holding Company, Qalaat Jeddah Company, and Saudi Binladin Group.
