The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has achieved a tangible milestone in the fields of research and innovation by registering 40 patents and being granted 24 patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 2023.

The university is considered one of the leading institutions in the region in scientific research and innovation. It dedicates its efforts to supporting advanced research that enhances scientific and technological progress, and supports new and innovative solutions to societal and industrial challenges.

Dr. Ahmed Murad, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research, stated that this achievement enhances the position of UAEU in the global academic scene. The new inventions contribute to technological and economic progress, reflecting continuous support for developing knowledge and promoting scientific research within the university campus. This solidifies the university’s leading role in the fields of science and technology in the region, particularly in areas of interest to scientific communities.

He added that the university recorded 28 patents in 2022, while the number of registered patents reached 40 in 2023, representing an increase of 42.86%. The increase in patent registrations for 2023 is attributed to the launch of the ‘Patent Acceleration Platform,’ which provides exceptional and high-quality services. This platform enables inventors and researchers both inside and outside the university to protect intellectual property rights by registering patents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) within 70 days.

Dr. Murad noted that the granted patents cover a wide range of fields, with 17 patents granted in engineering, 5 in the sciences, and one each in health and information technology
