The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has witnessed significant development in its healthcare infrastructure and the introduction of modern technology in government, military, university, and private hospitals. This is a result of royal attention to the medical sector and its development, leading to Jordan being recognized as a regional hub for medical tourism and recuperation by the World Tourism Organization in 2023.
Official Jordanian efforts focus on improving the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens, with particular attention to rural areas. Over the past years, the kingdom has achieved milestones in increasing the number of medical services available to citizens and visitors for treatment and recovery.
Jordan has become renowned as a leading destination for treatment and recovery, ranking first regionally and among the top 10 countries globally. Key factors contributing to this include the availability of highly qualified professionals in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and medical engineering, as well as the establishment of numerous hospitals meeting international standards and equipped with advanced technology.
Jordan distinguishes itself with lower medical costs compared to many other countries, along with the quality of services provided and the presence of healthcare insurance systems adhering to the highest professional standards. Strict oversight mechanisms are in place to maintain the level of medical care received by patients and visitors. Additionally, Jordan benefits from a unique geographical location, charming natural landscapes, easy entry and visa issuance, security and stability, specialized healthcare legislation, and official efforts to provide more incentives by facilitating travel procedures and visa requirements.
According to the Private Hospitals Association reported by the Jordan News Agency, the number of visitors to the kingdom for medical purposes reached 203,000 in 2023. Additionally, the kingdom received nearly one million patients from 71 countries during the preceding five years, excluding the year 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
