The Al-Ula International Airport in the Al-Ula province of Saudi Arabia welcomed the inaugural flight of Royal Jordanian Airlines, which opened a new direct route from Amman. Royal Jordanian Airlines plans to operate two weekly flights between Queen Alia International Airport in Amman and Al-Ula International Airport starting from February 16.
The launch of the new air route reflects the heritage appeal of Al-Ula and the interest it receives due to its rich heritage, diverse nature, and the various events and activities held throughout the year, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The new route also serves as a historical bridge extending to a significant era when both regions witnessed the flourishing of the ancient Nabatean civilization, leaving enduring traces in Petra, Jordan, and Al-Hijr in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia. The new flights provide history and culture enthusiasts the opportunity to explore the deep historical connection between the two regions and learn about the shared ancient cultural heritage between Petra and Al-Ula.
It’s worth noting that Saudi Arabian Airlines recently expanded its flight routes to connect Al-Ula with Europe through direct flights from Paris to Al-Ula. This includes the seasonal flight that took off on January 28, 2024. Additionally, direct Gulf Air flights between Bahrain and Al-Ula are operating twice a week until March 6, and then from April 10 to April 27.
Moreover, direct flight options to Al-Ula are available from Dubai, Doha, Cairo, and various cities within the Kingdom.
