Dubai International Airport consolidates its lead in passenger numbers

Dubai International Airport maintained its position as the busiest airport in the United Arab Emirates last year, according to preliminary data, continuing its streak as the world’s largest airport by international passenger numbers for the tenth consecutive year.

Data from the Airports Council International (ACI), specializing in airport and airline data, showed that Dubai Airport continued to register strong growth rates in international travel in recent months, outperforming its counterparts on the list of the world’s largest airports.

Dubai Airports Foundation expects the number of passengers to exceed 86.8 million throughout 2023, after the total number of passengers during the first nine months of last year reached 64.5 million, a 39.3% increase compared to the same period in 2022. The total number of flights across the country’s airports reached about 314.7 thousand flights last year, compared to 236.7 thousand flights in 2022, indicating the strong performance of air traffic in the UAE.

The data revealed that the total number of flights by local and international airlines through national airports amounted to 33 thousand flights in December 2023, while the number of flights in November reached 26.6 thousand, 26.9 thousand in October, and 26 thousand in September. During June 2023, national airports received about 25.2 thousand flights, and 25.3 thousand flights in May. In April, the main national airports recorded 24.4 thousand flights, and in March, there were 25 thousand flights. In February, the national airports recorded 22.6 thousand flights, and in January, the number of flights was 25 thousand.
