Launching the “Mawhob” initiative to rehabilitate and empower persons with disabilities to work in the tourism sector

Under the patronage of Her Highness Hujaija bint Jaffer Al Said, and in the presence of several officials, the “Mawhob” initiative was launched to rehabilitate and empower people with disabilities to work in the tourism sector. This initiative is a collaboration between the Omani Tourism Development Company (Omran Group), the Wafa Center for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in Jabal Al Akhdar, and the dusitD2 Naseem Resort in Jabal Al Akhdar.

The “Mawhob” initiative is the first initiative dedicated to supporting people with disabilities in the tourism sector. It aims to enhance their capabilities, provide them with practical training, and open new doors for diverse employment opportunities. The initiative has several key objectives, including raising awareness about the abilities of people with disabilities in the tourism sector, empowering participants through specialized training to qualify them for the job market, promoting social integration, and highlighting the effective role of people with disabilities in society.

Hilal bin Masoud Al Jaddidi, Head of the Human Resources Unit at Omran Group, stated that the “Mawhob” initiative aligns with the “Ambitious Tourism” strategy, which serves as a roadmap to empower national competencies for success in the tourism sector. The initiative reflects their deep belief in the importance of expanding professional opportunities for people with disabilities, leveraging their talents and capabilities. The outputs of this initiative will be utilized in various projects and assets in the future.

Jagdeep Thakral, General Manager of dusitD2 Naseem Resort in Jabal Al Akhdar, expressed pride in being the starting point for this important initiative. Throughout the six-month training period, they will enrich the trainees’ experience with various necessary knowledge and skills, providing a safe and integrated training environment to unlock their potential and refine their social and professional skills.

Abla bint Khalaf Al Riyamiyah, Director of the Wafa Center for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in Jabal Al Akhdar, mentioned that the center’s affiliates and their peers with disabilities possess diverse skills and knowledge that qualify them for success in various work fields. They are proud to collaborate with their partners to launch the “Mawhib” initiative, a pivotal stage in employing their various talents and potentials. She called on all relevant entities to work on creating similar initiatives that contribute to achieving professional and social growth for people with disabilities.
