Drawing from the Middle East as a vital partner in Moscow’s thriving tourism sector, the Russian capital, Moscow, welcomed approximately 40 representatives from travel companies in the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for an extensive familiarization trip during September and October 2023.

Eugene Kozlov, the head of Moscow’s Tourism Committee, emphasized the city’s strategic approach to attract more tourists by enhancing cooperation between local and international companies. He noted that the Moscow Tourism Committee organized eight trade missions in eight countries, in addition to four familiarization trips to the capital. More than 100 companies from Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates joined these missions since the beginning of the year. Such events contribute to strengthening cooperation between the tourism sector in Moscow and the Middle East, facilitating an increase in mutual tourist flows.

During their visit to Moscow, travel companies from the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia explored the abundant tourist potential in the Russian capital and engaged in business discussions with their local counterparts. The delegations also familiarized themselves with the “Moscow Plus” program, which showcases Moscow’s beauty and outstanding hospitality, offering an opportunity to visit other charming Russian cities, including Kazan and various tourist destinations in the Moscow region. Thanks to Moscow’s central location, visitors can easily explore the nearby suburbs, such as the splendid monasteries and fortresses in Sergiyev Posad, Kolomna, and Zvenigorod. Additionally, trains provide quick journeys to St. Petersburg, known for its White Nights.

Experts in Middle Eastern tourism noted that Moscow’s winter tourism offers a captivating experience for travelers from the Middle East, especially during the New Year holidays when Moscow adorns itself with decorations that enchant visitors of all ages. They also praised the appeal of Moscow’s rural infrastructure, which includes health resorts, luxurious countryside retreats, golf courses, and ethnic parks.

Russia had previously announced the implementation of electronic visas for citizens of 55 countries, including those from the Middle East. These visas are valid for 60 days from the date of issue and allow tourists to stay in Russia for up to 16 days. Citizens of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar can travel to Moscow without the need for a visa.

Additionally, Russia is exploring the possibility of abolishing tourist visas for citizens of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait by 2024. Moscow continues to offer facilities for travelers from the Middle East, with over 100 flights connecting the United Arab Emirates to Moscow, as well as regular flights to Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, and other Middle Eastern countries. This initiative was announced in August.
