In just two days, all eyes will turn to the city of Al-Ula, as the fifth edition of the Saudi Dakar Rally 2024 kicks off. The rally will run until January 19, featuring 434 vehicles across various race categories, covering a distance exceeding 7800 km. The 46th edition introduces new routes comprising 60% of the total, traversing diverse terrains and allowing participants to explore the breathtaking natural landscapes and historical sites of Saudi Arabia. The competition will present new challenges, enhancing excitement and enthusiasm.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, the Minister of Sports and President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee, expressed continued commitment to hosting major global sports events in the Kingdom. He emphasized the support and keen interest from the leadership in Saudi Arabia, especially from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in promoting the sports sector. The rally starts from the enchanting city of Al-Ula, offering participants and spectators fifteen days filled with excitement and challenges.

The event, taking place from January 5 to January 19, features 778 participants from 72 countries, representing a diverse array of 434 vehicles in various race categories. Competitors will tackle 12 main stages and one preliminary stage, passing through several cities and regions in the Kingdom. Welcoming elite drivers, riders, and navigators, Prince Khaled bin Sultan Abdullah Al-Faisal, the Chairman of the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation, anticipated the strong competition in the 46th edition of the world’s toughest rally.

This edition will witness 778 participants representing 72 countries, with France having the highest number of participants at 163, followed by Spain with 119, and Italy with 72. Additionally, 135 new participants will compete for the first time, along with 129 legends and 31 participants in the original Motul Challenge category. The rally will also feature 46 women participants, including 34 in the Dakar Classic category.

It is worth noting that the Dakar Rally is one of the oldest and most prestigious motor racing events, known for its size, events, and high levels of excitement and thrill. The organization is managed by the Amaury Sport Organization in collaboration with the Saudi Arabian Motorsport Company and coordination with local authorities. The rally was first held in the Kingdom in 2020.
