Sri Lanka’s economy rebounded in the last quarter of 2023 as tourist arrivals rose amid an unprecedented financial crisis, authorities said.

The Census and Statistics Department said agriculture, industries and services grew 4.5 percent in the fourth quarter, compared with a 12.4 percent contraction a year earlier.

Overall, the economy contracted by 2.4 percent in 2023 compared to a 7.8 percent contraction in 2022, when Sri Lanka defaulted on its $46 billion foreign debt.
