King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and its partner Amplify Health have announced the development of early detection technologies for diabetes. This collaboration aims to reduce medical costs and protect patients from foot amputation due to diabetic foot.

The new system combines Amplify Health’s artificial intelligence (AI) technology with HyplexTM designed by KAUST electrical engineering professor Andrea Fratalucci

This is the first time KAUST technology has been applied to diabetes care. This collaboration is expected to lead to early detection of diabetes, better treatment plans and significantly reduced lower limb amputations.

This effort saves the Kingdom more than 2 billion riyals annually in medical costs, and reduces the amputation of 1.5 million feet of sugar worldwide each year.
